The future of passenger rail service for Central New York and the nation pivots on the outcome of a battle being waged in Congress this spring.
Four Upstate congressmen are among a score of House Republicans who have lent their names to a push for more federal support for Amtrak. They believe that money is necessary to ensure passenger trains continue to operate in areas such as the Upstate corridor west of Albany. Eight trains - four eastbound and four westbound - run through Central New York each day.
