May 24--SANTA FE, N.M. -- Before there was ever a Sweeney Convention Center, or even a Santa Fe, historians and archaeologists believe there was an ancient pueblo downtown.
And before there will be a new Santa Fe civic center, if it ever happens, Santa Fe's Archaeological Review Committee wants to make sure a multi-million project won't destroy those pueblo ruins buried beneath the city surface.
The committee agreed Thursday that at least several hundred thousand dollars should be spent on excavating the Sweeney Convention Center and Santa Fe City Hall parking ...
