May 26--Knight Ridder Inc., owner of the Duluth News Tribune, announced Tuesday that it has purchased four newspapers in surrounding communities: The Daily Telegram in Superior, Wis., the weekly Budgeteer News in Duluth, the Pine Journal in Cloquet, Minn., and the Lake County News-Chronicle in Two Harbors, Minn., also weeklies.
Knight Ridder also acquired portions of Manney's Shopper serving Superior, Cloquet and Two Harbors.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. However, the prior owner of the newspapers, MCG Capital Corp., purchased the publications ...
