Washington high schools have doubled the number of students taking advanced-placement classes and passing exams over the past five years, the College Board reported.
Washington was mentioned prominently in the organization's 2006 report Feb. 7 as one of six states to show "the greatest amount of positive change." The others were Maryland, North Carolina, Connecticut, Delaware and Maine.
Although Seattle hasn't seen such a dramatic rise, the district has had a steady increase each year in the number of students enrolling in advanced-placement courses, district spokesman Peter Daniels said.
