Ann Cullen Smith moved to the western suburbs in 1937 before they could really be called suburbs. Foxes and pheasants were regular visitors on her young family's 30-acre property in Minnetonka.

Today, at age 95, Smith misses the wildlife and open space that was lost as thousands of houses were built around her home. Though developers frequently called her with offers, she said she was never tempted to sell.

Now, under a deal being worked out with the City of Minnetonka and the Minnesota Land Trust, her land - one of the last undeveloped tracts in Minnetonka - will be preserved forever.
