In the 1950's a group of innovative leaders conceived the idea for the Research Triangle Park, an idea that changed the economic course for the central region of North Carolina with the cities of Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Cary. As successful as that idea has been, it alone does not ensure a prosperous future. Despite 40 percent job growth and 70 percent wage growth since 1990, over the past few years the region has faced the decline of traditional industries, lay-offs from leading industry clusters, and the acceleration of global outsourcing.
