For years, public safety officials have planned to keep Minnesota families safe in the event of a nuclear accident.
Starting next month, that plan will extend to furry, four-legged family members, too. Emergency workers will include a first-of-its-kind system that allows pets to be tested and decontaminated after a release of radioactive material.
The drill is part of the state's nuclear preparedness exercise to be held June 14 to 16 at the Prairie Island Nuclear plant near Red Wing, Minn.
