May 27--Local beaches should be safe to swim in this summer, although stretches along the Long Beach Peninsula and in San Pedro and Avalon continue to be plagued by unhealthy levels of pollution and bacteria, according to a report released Wednesday.
Heal The Bay's annual water quality report card shows ocean waters off the coast of Long Beach and northern Orange County are relatively clean despite their proximity to the nation's largest port complex and Los Angeles County's two major rivers.
