When Joe McAllister finished his second year as East Syracuse Fire chief in 1997, he stepped away from running the department.
He stepped back up to the job in April, winning election to a one-year term as chief just as the department was dealing with the controversy surrounding former Chief Vincent Stevenson.
McAllister said he hopes to heal divisions in the department. "I see things falling into place," McAllister said. "We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we're going in the right direction."
