SAN JOSE, Calif. _ The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency is sending letters on Friday to athletes suspected of drug use as its aggressive campaign to prevent cheaters from competing in this summer's Olympics continues, the San Jose Mercury News has learned.
The agency is trying to close out cases before the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Sacramento, July 9-18. The number of athletes receiving letters remained unclear Thursday night.
The athletes are being told that the letters do not mean that negotiations are over, a source familiar with the case said.
