YARDLEY and its many districts did not become part of the city until 1911.
Since then much of old Yardley has disappeared beneath new housing, but just off the busy No 11 route and in the aptly named Church Road lies the old Yardley Village.
It is a small, pedestrianised conservation area with the Trust School and a fine parish church of red sandstone taken from the earth of Yardley.
This church is dedicated to St Edburgha, a granddaughter of King Alfred.
