Winners of the second annual Herald Community Book Club's Poetry Contest know how to tell it like it is - even if some shun sweetness to do it.
So said Robert Pinsky, former U.S. poet laureate, at an awards ceremony Thursday honoring 11 prize-winning poets at the Cambridge Public Library's Central Square branch. "A work of art is an exercise in many things but not necessarily an exercise in being nice," he said, smiling mischievously.
