Fish have a sense organ that no land animal has. It is called the lateral line and runs along both sides of the fish's body. It is a long groove filled with nerve endings that "feel" the changes in water pressure around the fish. This sense enables the fish to know what is around it. Fish that swim in schools don't bump into each other because their lateral lines keep them a safe distance from each other.
