On Raleigh's 200th anniversary, a historian recalls its crucial role in spreading business across the state.
In 1792, a new town -- Raleigh -- became the capital of North Carolina. Controversial issues of commerce were enmeshed with its founding, and today, in Raleigh's 200th year, things haven't changed much. In fact, the connection between Raleigh and the state's economy has always been far closer than many people realize.
