A team headed by Chicago developer Stein & Co. has been awarded a $675 million contract to enlarge the McCormick Place convention center with a 2 million-sq.-ft addition. The team, named Mc3D, includes Atlanta architect Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates, the Washington, D.C.-based George Hyman Construction Co. and a number of Chicago minority contractors.
"We have a goal of awarding 30 percent of the contracts to minority- and women-owned firms," said Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority chairman John Schmidt.
