For the first time the Para-Pan American Games will be staged in conjunction with the Pan American Games. This was confirmed by the Organizing Committee of the XV Pan American Games Rio 2007 (CO-RIO) during the Pan American Sports Organization's General Assembly.
The Para-Pan American Games will be organized by CO-RIO, with the support of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) and the International Paralympic Committee's (IPC) Americas Region.
