PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local CENTRAL ELECTRICITY AUTHORITY (CEA) recently approved the power station and transmission network construction projects proposed by the NATIONAL HYDROELECTRIC POWER CORP. (NHPC) of India. The undertaking will involve building 2 new hydroelectric power plants at a total cost of $295,000,000.

Construction plans call for building a complex with an installed generating capacity of 44 Mw. This unit, to be sited in Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir, is expected to cost about $150,000,000 to complete. Another, 45 Mw station will also be built at an estimated cost of $145,000,000 in Nimoo Bazgo in Leh district.
