Watkins Glen, once the home of the U.S. Grand Prix, last hosted an open-wheel race in 1981. That could change next year as track officials continue to lobby Indy Racing League officials to stage an event at the famous road course overlooking Seneca Lake.
"I've been trying extremely hard, probably bordering on harassment, to let the folks in Indy know about Watkins Glen," Craig Rust, the president of Watkins Glen International, said. "I believe wholeheartedly that this would be a great venue; a great event at a great place. We've been aggressive because now's the best opportunity to pursue an Indy Car race up here."
