Jun. 2--Orange County housing prices continue to balloon at more than double the pace of the nation as a whole, a new study reports.

The average Orange County home price grew by 16.9 percent in the first quarter compared with a year ago, according to data released Tuesday by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight.

That made the county the seventh-fastest-appreciating housing market of 220 major metropolitan areas in the nation, reports OFHEO, which tracks the same homes over a period of time.

Three of the other areas in the top 10 are also in Southern California.
