2004 JUN 11 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- A new study published in the May 21 issue of The Lancet shows a potential link between low sperm counts and genomic imprinting disease and that this link could raise the risk of transmitting imprinted defects after assisted reproductive technology.
Imprinting disorders have been linked to abnormal fetal development and disease, but were previously noted in oocytes (Lancet 2003; 361: 1975-77). This is the first study that shows imprinting defects in sperm.
