The airline industry is struggling to be profitable. The crash of the national air traffic control (Nats) computer system hasn't done the industry any favours, especially at such a busy time.
What was the problem? Even after 55 minutes the systems was only partially repaired. It may never be possible to eliminate all technology failures but there are established processes and software to protect against this type of failure. In this case, questions have to be asked.
