When asked what his greatest role was, Ronald Reagan told biographer Lou Cannon, "President. That was the role of a lifetime."

But before being cast as commander in chief by the American people in 1980, Reagan's silver screen roles included a football star, Navy captain, gangster kingpin, alcoholic baseball pitcher, George Armstrong Custer and, famously, second banana to a chimpanzee in "Bedtime for Bonzo."

Reagan acted in 54 features from 1937 to 1964, working with Hollywood legends such as Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis, Olivia De Havilland, James Cagney and Barbara Stanwyck.
