Fans who love to guess winners are likely to find the 2004 Tony Awards frustrating. When the American Theatre Wing presents its annual prizes for the best of Broadway, to be broadcast Sunday night, the winners will be evenly divided between challenge-free shoo-ins and races too close to call.
The cinch bets: "Wicked" will walk away with Tony's most lucrative award, best musical. This word-of-mouth hit is going to be a bonanza for the touring industry (which controls many votes). It has won all the preliminary critics' contests although reviews were mixed.
