VOLUNTEERING IN CHINA
ANDREW Baring, 20, from Wiltshire, is in his second year at Oxford University, studying Human Sciences. His gap year included a three-month stint as a voluntary DJ at Charing Cross Hospital followed by a trip to China for seven months working as a voluntary teacher.
Andrew says: 'I grew up understanding the importance of voluntary work; my mother has always been involved in it.
Because I did slightly better than I expected in my A-levels, I applied to Oxford - which gave me a year to do something interesting.
