Former President Ronald Reagan didn't just reinvigorate the national GOP; he also is credited with sparking the beginning of a Republican surge in the Bluegrass State and, in particular, Northern Kentucky.
"When we won in 1980, it was a big turning point, a big building point for the Republican Party in Kentucky," said former Edgewood resident Elizabeth Thomas, the chairwoman of the Republican Party of Kentucky from 1980 to 1984. "I think most of us who look back on that feel an overwhelming turning of the tide."
