Home builders apparently don't mind paying higher fees to the San Diego Building Department.
But commercial contractors and home remodeling contractors may be less than enthusiastic about their fee increases.
Home builders say the higher fees have improved service at the Building Department. But then, the increase they are paying is much lower than the hikes faced by commercial and home remodeling contractors.
The increases boosted commercial tenant improvement permit fees by 224 percent, and home remodeling fees are up more than 30 percent. At the same time, fees for new homes increased only 3.7 percent.
