COLORADO SPRINGS -- The nearly 1,000 soldiers and family members stood as one Friday to applaud as Arland and Karen Panchot walked from the stage in McMahon Auditorium at Fort Carson.
Arland Panchot carried three small black boxes that he and Karen had just accepted from Lt. Col. Nate Sassaman.
They held a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star with a Valor Decoration, and a Meritorious Service Medal, all posthumously awarded to the Panchots' 26-year-old son, Dale.
