In the June 16, 1980, issue of Footwear News, Fashion Editor Vivian Infantino reported, "It's moccasin mania, with Indian looks spreading from the plains of Minnesota to the sidewalks of Milan." Infantino was specifically referring to Minnetonka Moccasin's Thunderbird shoe, which at the time retailed for $17 and was blowing out of stores across the United States and Europe.
Now, nearly 24 years later to the day, a similar occurrence is taking place. Or as Minneapolis-based Minnetonka Moccasin President David Miller put it, "It's like lightning striking twice."
