Kesey exhibit not `kitsch'
I take issue with Bob Keefer referring to the exhibit of Ken Kesey's work at Maude Kerns art center as `kitsch' (Register Guard, May 30).
Likening Kesey's prison notebooks to an exhibit of Jackie O.'s formal gowns serves to undermine the artistic integrity of one of our finest novelists. Keefer's statement that Kesey's prison writings are as good as work `by any other stoned 20-something graduate of the Stanford creative writing program,' smacks of a groundless, haughty ignor- ance.
Keefer clearly knows little about Kesey's writing; if he did, he would have found that the prison ...
