JASPER - Closure of a narrow, two-lane bridge this summer could leave a huge gap in emergency services on both sides of the Middle Fork of the Willamette River.
If the Oregon Department of Transportation goes ahead with a planned 30-day repair of Jasper Bridge, Pleasant Hill Fire Chief Lyle Payne and nearly all his volunteers will be stuck on one side of the river, while one of their fire stations and half their equipment will be stuck on the other.
