ARLINGTON, Texas _ Juan Dominguez strutted into the Rangers' clubhouse last August with the swagger of a Cy Young Award winner. He had yet to make his major league debut.
Dominguez, then 23, needed the bravado. He built it up to get through a childhood in which his family survived day-to-day, and in which he shuffled between the homes of his mom, his dad and his grandmother. Without it, he would still be living in Mao, a small town in the northwest part of the Dominican Republic where the illiteracy and unemployment rates hover above 20 percent.
