Jun. 12--Some use dough to make pizza. Dave Whitman uses pizza to make dough.
Last December, after 22 years in the oil field and telecommunications sales, he started running The Pizza Palace, a California Avenue restaurant he bought.
He wanted his piece of the pie.
"I don't think you can really be in sales without dreaming -- as you drive up and down the road -about working for yourself," said Whitman, 45, who co-owns the shop with his wife, Stefanie.
Like many entrepreneurs before him, Whitman is trying to build a business on dough and cheese.
