LONDON -- In the normally staid world of European central banking, the long knives are out.
This buttoned-down battle centers on the location of the European Central Bank, a Federal Reserve-style agency that will coordinate Europe's historic unification of its currency and monetary systems before the decade is out.
Various nations are involved in lobbying to attract the prestigious new institution, which will become, along with the Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan, one of the Big Three of central banking.
