Growing out of a conference held at Cardiff in 1997, this fine collection of essays investigates the secular side of England's visual culture from the twelfth to the early sixteenth century. Many elements of this, such as heraldry, costume, tomb effigies and brasses, and seals, have long traditions of specialist scholarship.
