Sunday was a night of firsts for several Syracuse Salty Dogs.
Forward Csaba Kerekes scored his first goal of the season. Goalkeeper Byron Foss got his first win as a professional - and his first shutout.
But the most important firsts in Syracuse's 1-0 victory over the Virginia Beach Mariners were these: The Salty Dogs won their first match in their last six tries, and it was the team's first victory in the month of June.
"It wasn't pretty, but we'll take it," was midfielder Ian Woan's apt summation of a somewhat sloppy match at P&C Stadium.
