UNITED STATES -- Production from Royal Dutch/Shell's Mars field is not expected to resume until the middle of June, removing a large share of the main US sour crude benchmark from circulation at a critical time for oil markets (PIW May31,p8). A valve malfunction caused a leak of about three gallons of crude oil from a pipeline leaving the platform, forcing a shut down on May 22 that knocked out about 150,000 b/d of crude oil supply and around 170 MMcf/d of natural gas.
