May 27--TOKYO -- Hanshin Electric Railway Co. said Thursday it posted record-high group net profit and sales for fiscal 2003 ended March 31 as sales at its affiliates were boosted by the Hanshin Tigers winning their first Central League pennant in 18 years.

The Osaka-based railway firm said its group net profit surged 53.0 percent from the previous year to 5.57 billion yen, while sales climbed 7.0 percent to 307.38 billion yen.

Group pretax profit rose 39.8 percent to 16.69 billion yen.
