May 26--A retaining wall up to 30 feet high will be constructed near Resurrection Cemetery in Moon, part of a $4 million plan to extend a runway safety area at Pittsburgh International Airport.
The wall, which will be built on Resurrection Road near the Ewing Road interchange, is necessary to extend the safety area on Runway 32.
Allegheny County Airport Authority spokeswoman Joanne Jenny said that in 1999 the Federal Aviation Administration required runway safety areas to be 1,000 feet long by 500 feet wide; Runway 32's is just 200 by 500 feet.
