Early statistics show that increases in confirmed tuberculosis cases are not just a 2003 phenomenon among DuPage County residents.
As of May 31, there were 26 individuals with the disease. That likely means the county could match last year's total of 62 cases, health department officials said.
In 2000 and 2001, the county had 48 TB cases. That number dipped in 2002 to 32.
"Tuberculosis is in our community. One factor is a resurgence in old tuberculosis cases and an increase in global travel with increased exposure for individuals who visit countries where it is endemic," county medical ...
