Apr. 14--New Yorkers aren't happy about coughing up sales taxes on stuff bought out of state -- and they're split about whether they're going to pay.
For the first time this year, the state tax department is coming after New York residents for sales taxes on items bought out of state, by catalog or over the Internet.
"You ask people whether or not they have any taxable purchases and then you explain the law and they all say no," said Pat Colabella, a Brooklyn certified public accountant who opposes the new line, although he said he personally plans to "stick something in there to satisfy" the state tax collectors.
