Apr. 28--OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- The U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge payroll was relatively stable in 2003. Although the number of DOE-supported jobs declined slightly, the total of salaries actually grew.
The payroll for federal and contractor workers in Oak Ridge was $831,744,443, according to statistics released Tuesday. That compared with a 2002 payroll of about $752 million.
The total number of jobs dropped from 13,101 in 2002 to 12,856 last year.
In additional to direct employees of DOE, the stats include employees of several major contractors -- such as UT-Battelle, BWXT Y-12, Bechtel Jacobs, Oak Ridge ...
