A row has broken out between Northern Foods and the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association over the application to grant the pies Protected Geographical Indication status.
Northern Foods has challenged the association's PGI application for its members. PGI designation would allow only pork pies made, processed or prepared within 25 miles of Melton Mowbray to carry the name of the town.
