Despite the major reorganization of space activities in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Russian organization which now operates the Mir space station said Monday the orbiting facility is prepared to receive the second in a series of commercial payloads prepared by a Massachusetts-based firm.

NPO Energia, which emerged as the group in control of manned space activities since the breakup of those bodies which administered the space program of the former Soviet Union, reported that pre-launch activities of the pharmaceutical research project of Payload Systems Inc. of Cambridge "have proceeded smoothly."
