Sonya Thomas ate 36-dozen Louisiana oysters in 10 minutes to capture the 2004 Acme Oyster House World Oyster Eating Championship. The contest was held in mid-April at the Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans.
Thomas, of Alexandria, Va., doubled Boyd "Half Shell Hammer" Bulot's 2003 record of 18 dozen oysters. The slender, 100pound Thomas wowed both contest participants and onlookers as she flicked two oysters into her mouth at a time.
