Marc Valentin, President, Thomson Broadcast Solutions
Thomson is encouraged by the increasing adoption of HDTV sets by consumers throughout the world, but especially in the U.S. (where over 9 million have been sold), and we feel that 2004 is the watershed year in the transition to digital television. There are now more than 1200 U.S. stations on the air in digital and over 25 channels available in HD from a combination of terrestrial, cable and satellite TV providers. This clearly illustrates that the industry as a whole has recognized that HD is a differentiating factor that can win viewers in today's highly competitive environment.
