Ranging from excellent to not so good, the condition of the winter wheat crop in Western Canada has seen a number of ups and down so far this season, according to industry officials.

"There has been a number of mitigating influences impacting the winter wheat crops across the Canadian prairies," Bob Linnell, with Winter Cereals Canada said.

He said early in the growing season there were numerous problems associated with excessively dry soils because of the lack of precipitation in the fall as well as in the spring, particularly in Alberta and parts of Saskatchewan.
