INTRODUCTION

Transfer molding is mainly utilized to mold products from thermosetting resins and rubbers. It is related to compression and injection molding. The method is like compression molding in that the plastic is cured into an infusible state in the mold under heat and pressure. It differs from compression molding in that the polymer is heated to a state of plasticity in the transfer chamber before it reaches the mold. The resin is forced into a closed mold through the delivery system (sprues, runners and gates) by means of a plunger, typically driven by a constant pressure.
