* In a strong show of support for interstate wine shipments, a letter from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has urged the New York legislature to pass bills that would allow out-of-state wineries to sell and ship products directly to consumers in the state.
In a letter to key state lawmakers, who had requested comments from the agency, several FTC bureaus said allowing direct interstate wine shipments benefits consumers.
"Based on our empirical research, the bills could allow consumers to save significantly on more expensive wines," Todd Zywicki, director of the FTC's office of policy planning, said in a statement on the agency's Web site. The bills ...
