Apr. 21--Consumer frustration over malfunctioning vending machines may soon be somewhat alleviated for city of Orangeburg residents.
By a vote of 5-1 Tuesday, City Council gave first reading to an ordinance, suggested by a disgruntled councilman, to provide immediate remedies for defective operation of vending machines.
Two months ago, after experiencing and witnessing a couple of incidents of lost money without compensation or service, Councilman Bernard Haire asked the city attorney to draft an ordinance to require businesses to make immediate refunds to customers for malfunctioning vending machines on their property.
