Apr. 20--Some upstate manufacturers are hiring more people and working them longer hours, according to this month's survey by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's Buffalo Branch, suggesting that factory employment may start to pull out of its slump.
The Fed's Empire State Manufacturing Survey polls about 100 upstate manufacturers about their business conditions.
Thirty percent of respondents said their employment is rising, up from 20 percent in March. Only 10 percent said they had fewer employees.
